MESSAGE BY MR SAM TAN CHIN SIONG

Dear Residents,

I am most happy to join the big family of Radin Mas.  In the last few weeks while visiting the various places in the constituency, I was very touched by the heart-warming welcome by residents.  Now that the General Election is over, it is time to get down to work for our constituency and our community. 

During my visits to Bukit Purmei, I have received feedback and requests for various matters from residents.  Chief among them are the Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) and the environmental issues associated with the parcel of land owned by the Malaysia authorities. 

For the LUP, the two Residents' Committees have conducted preliminary straw polls to gauge residents' support for this upgrading programme.  The straw poll results are tabulated and displayed on this website and the RC notice boards at each HDB block in the Bt Purmei precinct. 

         To have the lift stop at every floor will greatly benefit our senior citizens and those with difficulty in movement.  I hope that our residents will support this important and meaningful LUP by giving more than 75% of 'Yes' Votes to this project.  The HDB will provide a range of payment packages to make the LUP affordable to our residents.  So, those with financial considerations can choose an appropriate payment package for the LUP. 

         I have also requested the Estate Management Sub-Committee under the Radin Mas Citizens' Consultative Committee to work with the Town Council and the relevant government authorities to find a solution for the mosquito and trash burning problems brought about by the parcel of the land belonging to the Malaysia authorities.  We will do our best in identifying a workable solution to address the problems. 

         Last but not least, may I take this opportunity to wish all the mothers in Radin Mas a belated Mothers' Day which fell on 14 May 2006.  As for all the fathers in the constituency, an advanced greeting for a Happy Father's Day comes this 18 June 2006.

 我很高兴能成为拉丁马士大家庭的一分子。在过去的几个星期，我走访了区内的多个地方，受到居民们的热烈欢迎，使我非常感动。现在大选已经过去，是时候为选区和社区工作了。

 在我访问武吉宝美时，一些居民给我提供了反馈和要求。当中他们最关心的是电梯翻新，以及因一块属于马来西亚所有的地段所引起的环境问题。 

关于电梯翻新，两个居民委员会进行了初步的抽样调查，测试居民对翻新工程的支持程度。抽样调查的结果的统计表已经展示在这个网站和武吉宝美每一座组屋的居民委员会布告栏。 

让电梯在每一层楼停留，将能使我们的年长和行动不便的居民受惠。我希望这项重要而且有意义的电梯翻新计划，能获得超过75%居民的支持。建屋局将提供多个不同的付款配套，让居民们都能负担得起，那些需要考虑经济负担的居民也能选择适合的电梯翻新付款配套。 

我也已经要求拉丁马士公民咨询委员会属下的市镇管理附属委员会，与市镇会和相关的政府部门合作，寻找一个解决属于马来西亚所有的有关地段所引起的蚊子滋生和焚烧垃圾问题，我们正视这个问题，也将尽力找出一个可行的解决办法。 

最后，刚过去的5月14日是母亲节，我要为所有拉丁马士区的母亲们献上祝福，也要与祝福所有区内的父亲，在来临的6月18日父亲节快乐。
